Welcome to VegCheck AI ("the App", "we", "us", or "our"), developed by kreggscode. We are dedicated to safeguarding your privacy and ensuring you have complete transparency into how our application operates.

VegCheck AI is designed with a privacy-by-design architecture. Our goal is to empower you to make compassionate, informed vegan and plant-based choices without compromising your personal data.

2. Information We Access & Process

2.1 Camera & Photo Library Access

  • Camera Access: We request permission to access your device camera solely when you choose to scan a food product, packaging, or ingredient label.
  • Photo Library (Optional): If you select an existing product image from your camera roll, the App only accesses the specific image you pick.
  • Ephemeral Processing: Images captured or selected for ingredient verification are transmitted via encrypted HTTPS directly to our secure AI processing endpoint for character recognition and analysis. Images are processed in real-time and immediately deleted once the ingredient list has been parsed. We do not store, archive, or train public AI models on your photos.

2.2 Scan History & Preferences (Local Device Sandbox)

  • Your scan history, dietary preferences (vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, palm-oil free, gluten-free), custom notes, and saved favorite products are stored strictly locally on your device within the app's secure iOS sandbox.
  • This data is encrypted using iOS system-level encryption and is never uploaded to an external server or analytics database.
  • You can clear your scan history or remove individual saved items at any time directly in the app settings.

2.3 AI Vegan Expert Chat

  • If you use the interactive AI Vegan Expert chat to ask dietary questions or check specific additive codes (such as E-numbers, gelatin, shellac, carmine, vitamin D3 sources), your text query is processed temporarily to generate responses.
  • Chat messages are processed in real-time and are not linked to your personal identity.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

To ensure maximum privacy, VegCheck AI adheres to strict data minimization:

  • ❌ No Account Required: You can use VegCheck AI without creating an account, logging in, or providing an email address or password.
  • ❌ No Location Tracking: We do not track, collect, or store your GPS or geographical location.
  • ❌ No Contact or Identity Data: We do not access your contacts, phone number, name, or social media accounts.
  • ❌ No Third-Party Advertising Trackers: We do not include third-party advertising SDKs or data brokers.
  • ❌ No Sale of Personal Data: We never sell, rent, monetize, or trade any user information.

4. Third-Party Services & Apple StoreKit

4.1 Apple StoreKit (In-App Purchases & Subscriptions)

  • If you choose to subscribe to VegCheck AI Premium or purchase extra scan packs, all payment and billing transactions are processed directly by Apple via the App Store and StoreKit.
  • We do not collect, view, or store credit card numbers or payment details. Apple manages your subscription according to Apple's Privacy Policy.

4.2 Infrastructure & Security

  • AI ingredient queries and API gateway communications are secured using industry-standard TLS/HTTPS encryption with trusted cloud infrastructure providers.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

  • Images: Deleted immediately following real-time ingredient analysis.
  • Local Data: All your logs, scans, and learning quiz progress remain on your device. If you delete or uninstall the app from your device, all locally stored data is permanently deleted by iOS.

6. Children's Privacy

VegCheck AI is safe for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.

7. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Under applicable data protection laws (including GDPR in the EU/UK and CCPA/CPRA in California), you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your data. Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control to delete your data at any time directly through the app settings or by deleting the app.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
